About Me
I grew up in the Philippines, immigrated to the United States, and from what I know of my family history, have always been farmers. I went off course. For the past twenty years I was trained by artists who have mastered unconventional forms of expression, and I was mentored by community and national leaders whose brilliant minds were only surpassed by their enormous hearts. That already was pretty cool…and then, I got to work with young people who have gone off to become their own brilliant leaders, and created shows with awe-inspiring artists who became my friends.
I do theatre (from Shakespeare to shadow puppetry) and I can teach, young and old souls, the theory, practicum, marketing, fundraising, and performance of theatre.
I do community work, as a teaching artist, college and financial aid counselor, and mentor to students, emerging artists and young professionals.
I do this because access is incredibly important to me. I believe everyone deserves access to education and to the arts, as long as you are willing to work hard and in turn, help others to access opportunities. ---Lorna Velasco
